When we play here, we often take a moment to appreciate the view – you can see Boston Common and the city skyline sparkling at night, which adds magic to any celebration.

For your ceremony, you might choose the Rooftop Ballroom itself or step just outside it onto the Wheatley Terrace, an adjoining outdoor terrace. The Wheatley Terrace is ideal for an open-air ceremony or cocktail hour, letting your guests enjoy fresh air and sweeping city vistas. We’ve played acoustic guitar for ceremonies on the terrace. Just imagine a gentle breeze and the sights of downtown Boston as you exchange vows. But if weather permits, that Wheatley Terrace is absolutely perfect for cocktail hour – your guests can sip drinks under the city sky while we provide some light background music. We’ve often serenaded guests with our jazz trio out on the terrace as they enjoyed the Parker House’s famous hors d’oeuvres (yes, including their mini Boston cream pies – a nod to the hotel’s culinary legacy!).

When it’s reception time, the party moves back into the Rooftop Ballroom. This ballroom truly transports you to a bygone era. With its historic arched ceiling and sparkling chandeliers against the city backdrop, there’s a feeling of vintage glamour. The layout is elongated, which actually works nicely for a band setup and dance floor at one end. We usually set up in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, so while the band performs, we can see the twinkling lights of downtown behind the crowd – an amazing sight for us and your guests alike. The acoustics are warm, and our sound carries well in the space without overwhelming it. Because it’s a historic venue, ceilings are a bit lower than modern ballrooms (adding to the intimate feel), but our audio sound engineer always ensures a perfect mix.

With around 200 guests, there’s plenty of room for dancing. We often bring our uplights to accent the pillars and arch of the ceiling, giving the room an added glow that complements the Omni Parker House’s classic ambiance.

The Harbor View Ballroom is a stunning space for either a ceremony or a smaller reception. True to its name, it has floor-to-ceiling windows framing panoramic views of the harbor. It accommodates up to 146 guests for a seated dinner or around 200 for a standing reception. Our DJ has played many ceremonies in this room – imagine walking down the aisle with sunlight reflecting off the water and illuminating the room. It’s simply gorgeous, and for a sunset ceremony, the light is phenomenal. If you have more than ~150 guests, ceremonies can also be held in the hotel’s Palm Garden Atrium, a unique indoor space with soaring glass ceilings and greenery that can seat up to 200 for vows. (We once provided a solo pianist for a ceremony in the atrium – the natural light and plants gave it an almost outdoor feel.)

For cocktail hour, the connected Harbor View Terrace is a showstopper. This outdoor terrace lets guests enjoy cocktails literally at the water’s edge. In the evening, they even have seasonal fire pits out there, creating a cozy social spot as the harbor breeze drifts by. From a band’s perspective, the Grand Ballroom is a fantastic blank canvas – its neutral tones and modern lighting allow us to splash your chosen colors across the walls with our LED uplights. We typically set our stage at one end, leaving a huge dance floor in the center. Because it’s a newer hotel, the power supply and load-in facilities are excellent (a little detail that means we can set up more efficiently and focus on sound-check to ensure perfect audio for you).

One more highlight: being on Long Wharf, this hotel is steps away from the harborwalk. Some couples even arrange for a dramatic entrance via boat! We played a reception where the newlyweds arrived by water taxi – guests watched from the Harbor View Terrace and cheered as they docked. Often, the adjacent Aujourd’hui room or foyer is used, where guests can continue to admire the Public Garden view while enjoying cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. We typically provide soft music – perhaps a saxophone and keyboard duo playing classy standards – as the hotel’s white-gloved staff circulates with champagne. The Ballroom (approximately 3,710 sq. ft.) can host around 300 guests for a banquet and up to 400 for a reception. One of our favorite aspects as a band is the built-in stage – the Four Seasons Ballroom has an alcove stage area perfect for live entertainment, so we set up as if we are part of the room’s design rather than an afterthought. The sound in this room is excellent; we’ve fine-tuned our setup so that whether we’re playing a Motown medley or a soft acoustic dinner set, every note is crisp without echo. One of the InterContinental’s strengths is its versatile event spaces – the hotel has two primary ballrooms that can host weddings of different sizes. For grand weddings, the Rose Kennedy Ballroom is an absolute showstopper. This ballroom is 10,653 square feet of pure elegance – one of the largest in Boston – and can accommodate over 1,100 guests for a reception. We’ve played some pretty big weddings here, and the space handled it with ease. Despite the size, the design isn’t a plain convention hall – it has beautiful carpeting, modern chandeliers, and large windows overlooking Fort Point Channel and the Seaport area, so you still get a sense of place. When we set up our full band on the expansive stage in Rose Kennedy Ballroom, with intelligent lighting around us, it truly feels like a concert venue – we can go big with sound and lighting, which is a thrill. Yet, thanks to the room’s modern acoustical engineering, the audio remains clear (they’ve built these ballrooms with events in mind).

For smaller (but still sizable) weddings, the Abigail Adams Ballroom is a great option. This space offers about 4,992 square feet and can be divided or used whole. It comfortably fits up to ~300-500 guests depending on layout. The Abigail Adams Ballroom features the same floor-to-ceiling window aesthetic as its big sister, so your guests can enjoy views of the city skyline and water as they celebrate. We’ve noticed that even in the Abigail Adams, the InterContinental’s style comes through: contemporary lighting fixtures, sleek neutral decor, and top-notch tech.

This room is ideal for those who want a modern feel but don’t have a 600+ guest list. We find the intimacy of the slightly smaller space can lead to really energetic dance floors – when we have 200 guests tearing it up to “Don’t Stop Believin’” in Abigail Adams Ballroom, the excitement is palpable yet everything still feels sophisticated.

Now, whether you choose Rose Kennedy or Abigail Adams, you’ll likely utilize the prefunction spaces for your ceremony or cocktail hour. The InterContinental has a very elegant pre-function foyer adjacent to these ballrooms, with contemporary art and plenty of natural light. In fact, this pre-function space next to the ballroom can accommodate all your guests for a cocktail reception. We often set up a smaller sound system in the foyer to play some upbeat background tunes as guests sip cocktails and admire views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Some couples also opt to hold their ceremony in the ballroom (flipping it for reception) or in one of the InterContinental’s other event spaces, like the Harbor Room, which directly overlooks the water. We once played for a ceremony where the couple arrived by boat and walked right into an outdoor ceremony along the waterfront promenade – a grand entrance that only a venue like the InterContinental can allow (they literally “dock and wed”!).

From a band’s perspective, we love the InterContinental’s modern infrastructure. The stages are sturdy, the power supply is robust (critical for our equipment), and there’s even intelligent rigging points for extra lighting or decor. When the dance party hits, and our music is pulsing, those huge windows sometimes reflect the fun – you catch glimpses of the Boston Harbor Hotel across the channel and the city lights, reminding everyone they are in the vibrant heart of Boston.

We’ve played acoustic duos for ceremonies in this room – as you exchange vows, you and your guests can gaze out at the historic BPL and Trinity Church across the street, which lends an unmistakable “Boston” feel. The natural light is abundant, and it can seat around 200+ for a ceremony (or up to ~240 for a reception). Saying “I do” with the city as your backdrop then seamlessly transitioning to a reception in a larger ballroom is a common and smart flow here.

For larger weddings, the Westin’s ballrooms come into play. The two primary large spaces are the Essex Ballroom and the America Ballroom. The Essex Ballroom can host up to around 400 guests banquet-style and has a modern design with soft earth tones, sleek lines, and an adjoining foyer. We find it perfect for couples who want a big wedding but still value a stylish, somewhat contemporary look (versus a very traditional ballroom). The Essex Ballroom’s foyer is great for cocktail hour – guests can mingle just outside the doors, then we swing them open to reveal the reception setup when it’s time to dine and dance.

Now, if you have a very large guest list, the America Ballroom is one of the largest in the city. This grand space can seat up to 1,000 guests for dinner and up to 2,000 standing. It’s massive – the kind of ballroom used for galas and New Year’s Eve balls – so as a wedding band, the prospect of filling it with sound and energy is both challenging and exciting (challenge accepted!). We’ve brought in extra speakers and even line-array sound systems for particularly large weddings in the America Ballroom to ensure every one of those 1,000 guests hears the music perfectly. The ballroom is divisible into sections, so it’s versatile for scaling down if needed. What’s nice is that even with its size, the Westin keeps it visually appealing – think modern chandeliers and subtle color schemes that you can dress up with your wedding colors.

It boasts floor-to-ceiling windows with magnificent city views and is flooded with natural light. It can seat up to 100 guests – ideal for a cozy ceremony or a separate lounge area. We’ve provided an acoustic guitarist in the Brewster Room as guests enjoyed cocktails, soaking in the sunset over the Boston skyline – a very cool city-chic experience.

For the main events, the Renaissance has two main ballrooms: the Atlantic Ballroom and the Pacific Ballroom. The Atlantic Ballroom is perfect for medium-large weddings (up to about 300 guests dinner-style). What sets Atlantic apart is its dramatic design. The room features beautiful wood architectural details and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Seaport. It even has an elegant staircase that leads up to a mezzanine cocktail reception area – talk about making an entrance! We’ve seen couples descend that staircase to join their reception, and it’s always an epic moment (often we’ll strike up a lively tune as you enter to cheers). The natural light and harbor views from Atlantic Ballroom are fantastic; during daytime events, you see boats and blue sky, and at night the lights of the Seaport sparkle. The space is very open, so we easily set up a sizable dance floor in the middle and arrange our band at one end. The high ceiling and wooden accents provide a warm acoustic, making our live music sound great.

For even larger celebrations, the Pacific Ballroom is the Renaissance’s grand ballroom. It’s an expansive space with a lighthearted, airy ambiance and an effervescent color palette. Pacific can accommodate around 600 guests for dinner (and up to 720 theater-style, 1,000 standing). Despite its size, it’s not your typical plain box – the decor is contemporary with subtle ocean hues, befitting the waterfront locale. We’ve performed for big weddings in Pacific Ballroom where we brought in our full concert-style production: stage risers, additional bass subs and lighting, you name it. The room can handle it and still feel inviting. And with space for a huge dance floor, you can bet we’ll get a massive crowd moving when it’s time – there’s no such thing as “too many people” to dance in Pacific!
